Chester River Y&CC 2000
by George Albaugh

Hi Greg - Report and Commentary:

Here's the dirt on the CRY&CC regatta:

We had 6 boats at Chester River Y&CC (me in SAY WHEN, the Bousquets in their respective boats, Joe Courter in his new Mistral, Greg in CCC, and Jean Gruhler in his Dorr Willey. Their venue is pleasant, (historic colonial town in rural setting--much for spouses to look at), folks friendly, kids impressed by Moths, adults nostalgic about Moths, etc.

We had 5 races; three in light air, a lunch break and two races in moderate to strong wind preceeding the mother and father of a thunder storm. The first three races were enjoyable in that all the boats stayed close. I did stupid stuff during the morning: The first race I got a reasonable start, had clear air and would have been first to the weather mark, if I hadn't gone to the wrong one! At the leeward mark the river current would pull you into the mark if you weren't attentive. During race two I did a royal job of getting my rudder hung on the mark's anchor line, to the point of having to take the rudder off in order to get away! Needless to say, that after accomplishing my escape AND doing my penalty turn, I was well and truly last that race. The third race I did better, avoided getting tangled with the mark, but managed to touch Greg's boom with my bow stay at the same mark. More penalty turns! Mercifully, after lunch, the wind piped up and I was able to settle down and get two second place finishes. Nancy Tidy supplied the Moth Boat trophies in the form of original water colors from her house light series. Quiet lovely! The Patterson's now have Shelley and Mistral plans, so stand by for more competition next year. All in all, a good day out. Hope this one becomes a fixture.

The final results: Joe Bousquet 1st, Susan Bousquet 2nd, Joe Courter 3rd, GPA 4th, Jean Gruhler 5th, Greg Duncan 6th.
