Greg, the report and commentary:
Racing: Mark Saunders, Walt Collins, Greg Duncan, George Bailey
Overall: Mark, Walt, George.
Heat One: Mark, Walt, Greg, George
Heat Two: Mark, Walt, George (Greg did not race heats two or three).
Heat Three: Mark, Walt, George.
Commentary: Course = triangel, once around then back to windward mark, back to leward mark, windward to finish line. Race postponed from 12:00-2:00 due to no wind. Very light wind at start of heat one. On the way to the first mark the second time around in heat one a nice squall hit. This cooled things off, and gave us some fun. No one turned over, though George tried to see how well his moth would serve as a submarine running downwind, after which he decided to sit further aft. Made for a fast and refreshing finsh to a heat that started very hot and slow. At this point Greg retired for the day. With the squall past, heat two started as a drifter. Must have taken 40 min. to make the first mark. The three moths spread out quite a bit, and the sunfish overtook the third moth (George). So George had a contest with the lead Sunfish, which the Sunfish won in the last two legs of the heat (passing George to windward on the secton time around - George's excuse is that he luffed a bit to adjust his outhaul as the wind was coming up again, and during this time the Sunfish shot past to windward of him). The third heat started in a nice breeze, and all three moths were fairly close together at the windward mark. Mark pulled ahead, but George and Walt stayed close together during the reaches and runs. George then got a slight edge going to windward with Walt the secone time around the leward mark, but at the finish line Walt's better sailing enabled him to slip past George during the last few feet to the line. All-in-all, the last heat was a nice finish to a hot day.
