Greg,
Report and Commentary:
This regatta has been a fixture for 57 years, this year attracting 315 boats. It has been decades since a Moth class has competed, but this year five of us pre-registered to make it so. On the beach and on the water the boats were a big draw, not only to the 150 or so Opti kids, but to the adults as well.
Light air prevailed. No hiking was needed. Other courses, including Lasers and Sunfish, only completed one race all weekend. Saturday Moths were started last after Vanguard 15, Portsmouth and a large, unruly 420 group. After seeing the Moths finish halfway into the 420 fleet, Sunday the order of racing was reversed.
Jeff Linton won every race with some competition from Jamie Rabbit and his Wedge design on Saturday and Dave Ellis on Energizer on Sunday. Rod Kock borrowed a Wedge, as his is not yet completed. Crisy Roland borrowed a Dore Willy and was a good sport in helping round out the requisite five boats to form a class.
It was interesting to see Jamie Rabbit sail Energizer between races. Take sixty pounds of crew weight out of the boat and look out!
