Greg:
I read on your web page in the moth doings newletter a section about locating old moths in museums. In the article, there is a moth mentioned in the Tuckerton museum in NJ. I am almost certain that this boat was mine as a young boy. Moth #2662 is a Fletcher built moth originally owned and raced by Bruce Gwaltney and my father purchased the boat for me in 1975. The boat continued to be raced by me at Surf City Yacht Club on Long Beach Island in NJ until the fleet died in about 1977. I traded the boat to a friend ( I am embarrassed to say for a workbench!), Calvin Morey in 1983 when my grandparents house was sold and I had no place to keep it. Calvin later told me he donated the boat to the "Bayman's" Museum in Tuckerton NJ.
Surf City Yacht Club had a large fleet of moths in the 50's and 60's. My uncles Frank Temme and Tom Temme owned several boats including a Dor Willy named Misty III, Hull #111. This was the first boat I learned to sail on in 1970 at the age of 8. I still cherish the trophy given to me by my Grandfather commemorating my first solo sail in the boat.
I now sail a lighting with my Uncle and am proud to have a crew of ex-moth sailors. Newt Wattis is our front man and he won the Moth North Americans at some point in the 50's.
It was fun to stumble on your web page!
