This is too good not to share, so i'm sending it to Greg!!!!!! I can just see you up to your elbows in that foam. Believe me, I personaly know how sticky the mess was.
No imposition to bring the mug up. Joe, I do not know if I will get to Hertford this weekend. We can get together next week or Greg Duncan might carry it north. Let me know either way.
I spent a couple of hours last night with the tall rig sails I have and my assortment of masts. Neither tall tall sail looked very good on the only tall mast I have. The cut down sail has better shape, especially at the top than either of the full size sails. Joe, do you think I could keep up down wind and in the light stuff with the cut down version?
Walt

Hi Joe:
It has dawned on me that you have the MM "auld mug". I'll need to get it up to Brigantine--should have thought of this last week! I could have picked it up then. Could you get together with Walt so that it gets a ride north?
Walt: I hope you'll allow me to impose on you for this task.
Different subject: last night I attempted to pump expandable foam into a DM-1 mast for Erik. I cut off the rivets which held the halyard pulley cap on the top of the mast. So far, so good. I bought 16 feet of poly tube to hook up with the "straw" on the can, using a pair of hose clamps. OK, that worked.
First discovery was that Dwyer had put a styrofoam plug in this mast about a foot down from the top. It wasn't solid, so I managed to poke a hole in that and push my tube about 1/3 of the way into the mast. Unknown to me was that while I was doing the poking and shoving with the excess tubing, the straw was quietly unscrewing itself from the cap. When I pulled the trigger, foam went every where but into the mast! Worse, the d*mn thing wouldn't shut off! It was sort of like an old "I love Lucy" episode. I finally got the can to stop, pulled the hose out in disgust, and had enough foam left in the can to fill the top foot or so of mast using the straw alone. I rationalize that the tip is the most important part to have buoyant! What a mess! My hands are still sticky. Oh well, live and learn. That's my Moth Boat story for the week!
